FL Homestead Exemption


Every person who owns and resides on real property in the State of Florida on January 1 and makes the property their permanent residence is eligible to receive a Homestead Exemption of up to $50,000. You must apply for your exemption with your local county Property Appraiser before March 1.

The following is a list of documents that you may be asked to provide information about. You should have these documents available prior to starting your application:

- Florida Driver's License or Identification card.

-Vehicle registration.

-Voters' registration.

-Permanent Resident Alien card.


If you're a Florida homeowner who moved from an existing Florida homestead to a new Florida homestead in 2017, you may be able to transfer, or "port", all or part of your homestead assessment difference!
